Beaumont Man Arrested After Fleeing Traffic Stop, Found With Suspected Methamphetamine

BEAUMONT, Texas — A Beaumont man is facing felony charges after police say he fled from a traffic stop and was found in possession of a large quantity of suspected methamphetamine.
According to the Beaumont Police Department, officers conducted a traffic stop at approximately 6:52 p.m. on June 24 in the 2100 block of Delaware Street.
Police said the driver, identified as 41-year-old L. T. Savoy of Beaumont, fled from the vehicle on foot but was quickly apprehended by officers.
After taking Savoy into custody, officers discovered a large quantity of suspected methamphetamine in his possession.
Savoy was transported to the Jefferson County Correctional Facility.
Investigators later confirmed that Savoy had a prior conviction for evading detention. Because of that previous conviction, the current evading detention charge was enhanced from a misdemeanor to a felony.
Savoy was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and Evading Detention.
The investigation remains ongoing.
