Pickup Truck Swallowed by Massive Sinkhole After Water Main Break in Beaumont

BEAUMONT, Texas – A pickup truck became trapped in a large sinkhole early Sunday after what officials believe was a water main break caused part of a Beaumont roadway to collapse.

At approximately 2:15 a.m. on Aug. 2, Beaumont police officers responded to the area of Central Drive and East Drive following reports of a traffic hazard.

When officers arrived, they found a black Ford F-150 partially submerged in a large sinkhole that had opened in the roadway.

According to the Beaumont Police Department, the sinkhole was deep, wide and continuing to fill with water, conditions believed to have been caused by a broken water main.

No injuries were reported.

The Beaumont Fire Department, Streets Department, Water Utilities Department, Emergency Operations Center and Spanky’s Towing responded to assist with the incident and secure the area.

Officials are urging motorists to avoid the area and use alternate routes while crews complete repairs to the roadway and damaged water line.
