HOUSTON, Texas — A 33-year-old man has been charged following a fatal hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of a 31-year-old woman Thursday afternoon at the Ventura Lofts Apartments in west Houston.

According to the Houston Police Department, the crash occurred at approximately 3:30 p.m. on June 25 at the Ventura Lofts Apartments, located at 2401 South Gessner Road.

Responding officers found the female victim at the scene. Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene.

The victim’s identity has not yet been released pending notification of her family by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

After consulting with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, detectives charged Sims with Manslaughter and Failure to Stop and Render Aid in an Accident Resulting in Death.

The manslaughter charge was filed in the 337th Criminal District Court, while the failure to stop and render aid charge was filed in the 185th Criminal District Court.

The investigation remains ongoing.
