Beaumont Man Arrested After Early Morning Shooting Leaves Victim in Critical Condition

BEAUMONT, Texas — A 35-year-old Beaumont man has been arrested after an early morning shooting left another man hospitalized in critical condition.

According to the Beaumont Police Department, officers responded at approximately 2:26 a.m. on June 25 to the 100 block of Virginia Street following reports of a shooting.

When officers arrived, they found an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers immediately provided life-saving aid until Beaumont EMS personnel arrived and took over medical treatment.

The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

A preliminary investigation determined the shooting began as a verbal disturbance that escalated into gunfire.

Police said the suspect remained at the scene and was identified as 35-year-old Brian Matthews of Beaumont.

Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division and members of the Crime Scene Unit responded to process the scene and continue the investigation.

Matthews was arrested and booked into the Jefferson County Correctional Facility on a charge of Aggravated Assault.

The investigation remains ongoing.
