Southeast Texas Violent Crime Task Force Reports 146 Arrests, 25 Firearms Recovered in Mid-Year Update

BEAUMONT, Texas — The Southeast Texas Violent Crime Task Force has released its mid-year enforcement results, highlighting dozens of arrests, firearm seizures, and the apprehension of multiple homicide suspects across Southeast Texas.

The task force, formed through a partnership between the Beaumont Police Department, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Texas Department of Public Safety, Nederland Police Department, Jasper Police Department, Groves Police Department, and federal agencies including the FBI, ATF, DEA, Homeland Security Investigations, and the U.S. Marshals Service, focuses on reducing violent crime through intelligence-led investigations and coordinated enforcement operations.

According to the task force, officers have reported the following enforcement activity so far this year:

  • 704 traffic stops
  • 183 citations issued
  • 146 arrests
  • 54 felony warrants served
  • 29 misdemeanor warrants served
  • 25 firearms recovered
  • 14 violent offender apprehensions, including five murder suspects and one capital murder suspect
  • 10 suppression operations conducted
  • Six search warrants executed
  • 18 cases referred for federal prosecution

Task force operations also resulted in the seizure of methamphetamine, heroin, fentanyl, cocaine, crack cocaine, marijuana, synthetic marijuana, prescription narcotics, and illegally possessed firearms.

Officials said several investigations targeted organized criminal activity, violent assaults, robberies, and repeat violent offenders.

During the reporting period, the task force played a significant role in apprehending six murder suspects. Those investigations included suspects accused of committing murders in Beaumont before fleeing to other jurisdictions, as well as homicide suspects wanted elsewhere who were ultimately located and arrested in Beaumont.

In addition to enforcement operations, the task force has used intelligence analysis and crime trend monitoring to identify violent offenders and direct resources to areas experiencing increased criminal activity.

“Violent crime does not stop at city or county lines, and neither do our efforts to combat it,” Beaumont Police Chief Tim Ocnaschek said. “The Southeast Texas Violent Crime Task Force brings together local, state, and federal partners to share intelligence, coordinate operations, and pursue violent offenders wherever the investigation leads.”

Jefferson County Sheriff Zena Stephens said the agency remains committed to protecting residents through continued partnerships.

“Statistics are important accountability measures, but we understand that crime is about people, not numbers,” Stephens said. “We will continue to dedicate resources along with our partners to identify and apprehend people who victimize our citizens.”

FBI Houston Special Agent in Charge Jason Hudson said the task force enhances coordination between agencies and strengthens public safety efforts throughout Southeast Texas.

ATF Houston Field Division Special Agent in Charge Michael Weddel added that the recovery of illegal firearms, apprehension of violent offenders, and federal prosecution referrals demonstrate the effectiveness of the partnership.

The task force said it will continue focusing on identifying emerging threats, targeting violent offenders, and improving public safety throughout Southeast Texas.
