Armed Man Accused of Pointing Gun at Northwest Houston Residents, Deputies Before Taser Arrest

HOUSTON, Texas – A man accused of walking through a northwest Houston neighborhood with a handgun and threatening residents was arrested Sunday after authorities say he pointed the weapon at deputies and fled on foot.

Deputies with Harris County Precinct 4 Constable Mark Herman’s Office responded Sept. 13 to the 8100 block of Schaffer Lane after receiving multiple calls from the Prestonwood Forest neighborhood.

Callers reported an armed man walking through the neighborhood, pointing a handgun at residents and homes while making threats.

Deputies searched the area with assistance from a Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter and located the man, later identified as 20-year-old Micah Whitehurst.

As deputies attempted to approach him, Whitehurst allegedly pulled out a firearm and pointed it at them before running away.

Authorities said Whitehurst discarded the gun while fleeing.

Deputies caught up with him and deployed a Taser before taking him into custody. Whitehurst was transported to a hospital for treatment and later released into law enforcement custody.

Whitehurst was booked into the Harris County Jail on two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and two counts of aggravated assault against a public servant.

His bond had not been set by the 338th District Court at the time authorities released information about the arrest.

No injuries to residents or deputies were reported.
