Officer-Involved Shooting During Traffic Stop in Southwest Midland
Early Wednesday morning, an officer-involved shooting occurred during a traffic stop in southwest Midland. The incident took place at approximately 1:06 a.m. on March 13.
According to the Midland Police Department, the encounter unfolded when two officers initiated a traffic stop in the 3600 block of Bankhead Highway. As the officers approached the vehicle, the driver attempted to flee the scene. In response, one of the officers discharged their firearm, striking the driver with a single gunshot wound.
Following the shooting, emergency services rushed the driver to Midland Memorial Hospital for medical attention. The driver is currently undergoing treatment for their injuries.
The Texas Rangers have been called in to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Meanwhile, the officer who discharged their weapon has been placed on administrative leave, adhering to the protocols outlined by the Midland Police Department.
