New Mexico Man Arrested on Drug Charges After Vehicle Incident in West Texas

On Saturday, January 13th, 2024, Winkler County deputies responded to a report at the intersection of County Road 301 and FM874, where a male subject was found asleep in his vehicle obstructing the roadway. Upon arrival, deputies identified the individual as 43-year-old Chad Ian Williams of Lovington, NM.
Deputy Espinoza and Chief Investigator Stroud approached Williams and discovered two hypodermic needles falling from his person during the removal from the vehicle. A subsequent probable cause search of the vehicle revealed a small plastic baggie containing a white crystal substance suspected to be methamphetamine.
Williams was then transported to the Winkler County Detention Center, where a thorough search uncovered additional white crystal substance presumed to be methamphetamine. Further investigation revealed that Williams had an outstanding misdemeanor warrant issued by Gaines County.
As a result, Williams is facing the following charges:
- Possession of a Controlled Substance PG1 >=1G<4G – 3rd Degree Felony
- Prohibited Substance in a Correctional Facility – 3rd Degree Felony
- Warrant from Gaines County – Attempted Burglary of a Building – Class A Misdemeanor
Williams’ total bond was set at $22,500, and he was released on bond on January 14th.
