Fatal Overdose in Beaumont Prompts Warning on Rising Fentanyl-Related Deaths and Counterfeit Pills

On Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at 11:33 p.m., Beaumont Police responded to an overdose incident at a residence in the 2300 block of Tyler.

Upon arrival, officers found three males unresponsive on the back patio, receiving treatment from Beaumont EMS and Fire personnel. Officers assisted by administering Narcan to two victims and an AED to another, who was undergoing CPR. Unfortunately, one victim was pronounced deceased on the scene. The other two were transported to local hospitals in critical condition.

Narcotics and Persons Detectives were called to the scene, and preliminary investigations suggest the victims had purchased narcotics in pill form, leading to their collapse. Detectives suspect the pills were counterfeit and contained the deadly drug fentanyl.

Beaumont Police Department emphasizes the increasing danger of Fentanyl overdoses and deaths. Counterfeit pills, resembling prescription opioids, are easily accessible and often laced with Fentanyl. Purchasing pills outside of licensed pharmacies can be a fatal decision, as less than 2mg of Fentanyl in a counterfeit pill can be lethal.
