Man Fatally Shot in Park on North Wayside Drive; Suspect Still At Large

Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of a 19-year-old man at 9551 North Wayside Drive around 9:10 p.m. on Wednesday, August 28. The identity of the victim is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

According to HPD Homicide Division Sergeant C. Ponder and J. Meister, patrol officers were flagged down about a shooting at a park at the address and found an unresponsive man on the ground. The victim had suffered a gunshot wound and was pronounced deceased by Houston Fire Department paramedics.

A witness reported walking through the park with the victim when they were confronted by an unknown male suspect. The suspect grabbed the victim, put a gun to him, and said something before shooting him and fleeing on foot northbound toward Hamlet Street. The witness was uninjured.

The suspect is described as a black male wearing a black hoodie, gray pants, and a ski mask.
