Detained Man Hurls Bodily Fluids at Female Detention Officer in South Texas Jail
On Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at approximately 2:00 am, Cameron County Sheriff Deputies responded to an incident at the Carrizales Rucker Detention Center, situated at 7100 Old Alice Rd. Olmito, Texas.
Upon arrival, Sheriff Deputies engaged with Detention Staff Supervisors, who informed them that an inmate had thrown bodily fluids at a Detention Officer.
Upon arriving at the scene, Sheriff Deputies spoke with Detention Staff Supervisors, who relayed that Inmate Ferrero, initially held for Deadly Conduct, had engaged in the disturbing act. The Detention Officer involved in the incident reported that while conducting rounds, she observed Ferrero holding a cup outside his cell’s tray slot. Ferrero allegedly threw the contents of the cup at the Detention Officer, making contact with her torso and back area.
In response to the incident, the Detention Officer expressed a desire to file criminal charges against Inmate Ferrero.
Following the incident, the Detention Officer received medical clearance from the facility’s medical staff. Subsequently, Sheriff Deputies charged Mr. Edward Martin Ferrero with the offense of Harassment by Persons in a Correctional Facility, under TPC 22.11, classified as a 3rd Degree Felony. Ferrero had been initially incarcerated for Deadly Conduct.
