Fight Erupts Over Yard Trash: Woman Assaults Neighbor and Pregnant Woman in Brownsville Dispute
A dispute over blowing trash led to a violent altercation on Monday, January 1, 2024, at approximately 12:40 pm in the 6300 block of Tecate Dr., Brownsville, Texas. Cameron County Sheriff Deputies responded to a call regarding an assault at a residence.
Upon arrival, deputies encountered 35-year-old Crystal Victoria Herrera, who claimed she confronted her neighbor about trash entering her yard. Ms. Herrera alleged that her neighbor then assaulted her.
Subsequently, sheriff deputies spoke with the 31-year-old female neighbor, the reported aggressor, who displayed visible signs of assault. The neighbor asserted that Ms. Herrera entered her property aggressively, initiating the physical confrontation. Bite marks and bruising were observed on the victim.
In the course of the investigation, deputies also made contact with a 23-year-old pregnant female who had attempted to intervene. The pregnant female exhibited visible signs of assault, including bite marks and bruising. She was subsequently transported to a local hospital for evaluation.
Sheriff Deputies reviewed doorbell camera footage from a neighboring residence, which corroborated the victims’ accounts, showing Ms. Herrera assaulting the two females. As a result, Crystal Victoria Herrera was taken into custody and transported to the Carrizales Rucker Detention Center, pending arraignment.
Ms. Herrera faces charges of Assault (TPC 22.01), classified as a Class A Misdemeanor, and Assault of a Pregnant Person (TPC 22.01), a 3rd Degree Felony. The investigation is ongoing, and Ms. Herrera awaits her legal proceedings.
