Child Dies Following Head-On Crash on College Street in Beaumont

BEAUMONT, Texas — A child injured in a head-on collision early Saturday morning in Beaumont has died, according to an update released by the Beaumont Police Department.

Officers were dispatched at approximately 3:11 a.m. on June 6 to the 4000 block of College Street in response to a major traffic accident.

Preliminary findings indicate that 46-year-old Leosha Livings of Beaumont was driving a white Buick eastbound on College Street. Witnesses told investigators they observed a small child seated in the front passenger seat who was not properly restrained while the vehicle was stopped at a green traffic signal.

According to witness statements, the vehicle accelerated away from the intersection at a high rate of speed, crossed a concrete median and collided head-on with a Ford Expedition traveling in the opposite direction.

Beaumont Fire Department and Beaumont Emergency Medical Services personnel responded to the scene. Emergency responders found the child unresponsive and immediately began life-saving measures. Authorities said responders were able to regain the child’s pulse at the scene.

Livings became trapped inside the vehicle and had to be extricated by firefighters using hydraulic rescue equipment.

Both Livings and the child were transported to a local hospital. Due to the severity of the child’s injuries, the child was later airlifted to a hospital in Houston for further treatment.

On June 7, Beaumont police announced that the child had died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.

Livings remains in critical but stable condition, according to police. The driver of the Ford Expedition suffered minor injuries and was treated and released from the hospital.

The Beaumont Police Department Traffic Unit continues to investigate the crash. Authorities said potential charges are pending.
