Galveston County Drug Investigation Nets Meth, Fentanyl, Cocaine and Firearm

GALVESTON COUNTY, Texas – A months-long narcotics investigation targeting organized criminal activity in Galveston County culminated Friday with multiple search warrants, the seizure of large quantities of illegal drugs and the arrest of a 22-year-old man, according to the Galveston County Organized Crime Task Force.

On July 24, members of the Galveston County Organized Crime Task Force, working alongside the Houston Homeland Security Task Force, the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team, Crime Reduction Unit and K-9 Unit, executed five simultaneous search warrants at locations throughout Galveston County.

The warrants were served at 31st Street Store & Lock in Texas City, Bo’s Self-Storage in La Marque, U-Haul Moving & Storage in La Marque, and residences in Dickinson and Texas City.

During the operation, investigators developed additional information that led K-9 Deputy Sharp and K-9 Cash to conduct a free-air sniff at another storage unit. Based on the K-9 alert, detectives obtained an additional search warrant and discovered multiple kilograms of methamphetamine along with cocaine, fentanyl and a handgun.

Authorities said the operation resulted in the seizure of approximately 11.5 pounds of methamphetamine, 500 pressed methamphetamine pills, about 1 ounce of cocaine, 50 fentanyl pills, approximately 3 pounds of marijuana, a pill press, body armor, a Smith & Wesson handgun, and an undisclosed amount of U.S. currency.

Investigators arrested 22-year-old Mone Ford, who was identified as the target of the investigation.

Ford was charged with Delivery of a Controlled Substance in Penalty Group 1, more than 4 grams but less than 200 grams, and Delivery of a Controlled Substance in Penalty Group 1, more than 400 grams.

His bond was set at $2 million.

The Galveston County Organized Crime Task Force said the investigation was conducted in partnership with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies as part of ongoing efforts to disrupt organized criminal activity and narcotics trafficking in the region.

The Galveston County Sheriff’s Office also recognized Amoco Federal Credit Union for its donation that funded the purchase of K-9 Cash, noting the dog played a key role in locating additional narcotics during the operation.

The investigation remains ongoing.
