DPS Aircraft Helps Track Suspect, Leads to 15 Kilo Meth Seizure in South Texas

SOUTH TEXAS — A coordinated law enforcement operation involving aerial support led to the seizure of 15 kilograms of methamphetamine following a high-speed pursuit, officials said.

The operation included the Texas Department of Public Safety Aircraft Division, Criminal Investigation Division, Texas Highway Patrol, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Authorities said the incident began April 29 during a traffic stop when a suspect fled at a high rate of speed, creating a danger to other motorists. The pursuit ended when the suspect crashed into another vehicle.

After the crash, the driver attempted to conceal narcotics before fleeing on foot. DPS aircraft maintained continuous visual contact from above, allowing pilots to guide ground units to the suspect’s location.

Officials said the aerial support played a key role in bringing the situation to a controlled and safe conclusion.

Law enforcement recovered approximately 15 kilos of methamphetamine during the incident.

Authorities emphasized that aircraft support is critical in situations like this, helping improve situational awareness, reduce risks to the public and assist officers on the ground throughout active operations.

Additional details, including the suspect’s identity and charges, have not yet been released.
