Wanted Felon Arrested After Freeport Fire Response Turns Violent, Four Officers Injured

FREEPORT, Texas – A suspect wanted on multiple felony warrants was arrested Thursday morning after fleeing from officers and fighting with law enforcement during an incident that also left four officers injured, according to the Freeport Police Department.

Shortly after 8 a.m. on June 4, Freeport police officers and firefighters responded to a 911 call reporting a fire at a multi-unit residential property in the 1700 block of North Avenue K.

When first responders arrived, they discovered the residence was associated with an individual who was already under investigation for Failure to Register as a Sex Offender.

According to police, when officers made contact with the suspect, he immediately fled the residence on foot.

Officers pursued the suspect and were eventually able to detain him. During the arrest, authorities said the suspect began fighting with officers before being taken into custody.

Police said the suspect was wanted on four outstanding felony warrants:

  • Tampering with Physical Evidence (Habitual Offender)
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance (Enhanced)
  • Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance (Habitual Offender)

In addition to those warrants, officials said the suspect is expected to face multiple new criminal charges related to Thursday’s incident.

Four officers sustained injuries during the encounter, including three members of the Freeport Police Department. All four were transported to St. Luke’s Hospital for evaluation and treatment.

The Freeport Police Department credited several agencies for assisting during the incident, including Freeport Fire and EMS, the Clute Police Department, City of Clute EMS, Lake Jackson EMS, Brazoria County Constable Precinct 1, the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office, the Texas Department of Public Safety, and the Brazoria County Fire Marshal’s Office.

Officials also thanked community members whose information helped authorities locate the suspect after learning he had entered the city.

The investigation remains ongoing.
