Suspect Arrested for Fentanyl-Related Death in Willis, Texas
Keian Cormier

On March 16, 2024, authorities from the Montgomery County Narcotics Enforcement Team (MOCONET) responded to a residence on Barberry Street in Willis, Texas, in collaboration with MCSO Homicide and Violent Crimes, for a death investigation. At the scene, they discovered the body of a twenty-one-year-old male, with evidence suggesting a possible overdose from illicit narcotics. Subsequent analysis confirmed the cause of death as the toxic effects of Fentanyl.

Following an investigation led by MOCONET, Keian Alexander Cormier was identified as the individual responsible for supplying the Fentanyl to the deceased. On May 21, 2024, Cormier was apprehended by MOCONET members and taken into custody, subsequently transported to the Montgomery County Jail. He faces charges of Murder for his involvement in supplying the Fentanyl that led to the victim’s death.

Since 2019, MOCONET, in collaboration with the Houston High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA), has been actively addressing the trafficking of Fentanyl and its association with overdose fatalities in Montgomery County. Notably, a significant legislative change occurred on September 1, 2023, during the 88th Regular Session of the Texas Legislature. House Bill 6 was passed, enabling individuals to be charged with “Fentanyl Murder” if they supply or distribute Fentanyl resulting in a death. Utilizing this recent legal amendment, MOCONET has been able to pursue charges against suspects like Cormier in coordination with the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office.

The Montgomery County Narcotics Enforcement Team (MOCONET) operates as a task force within the Houston High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Area, comprising agencies such as the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office, Walker County Sheriff’s Office, Walker County District Attorney’s Office, Homeland Security Investigations, and the Texas Department of Public Safety.
