Conroe Man Arrested After Traffic Stop Leads to Seizure of 119 Grams of Fentanyl in Montgomery County
PORTER, Texas – A Conroe man was arrested after a traffic stop in Montgomery County led to the seizure of approximately 119 grams of suspected fentanyl and additional felony charges after authorities said he attempted to destroy evidence during his arrest.
The incident occurred at approximately 2 p.m. on July 25, when a deputy with the Montgomery County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office stopped a gold Ford passenger vehicle traveling northbound on FM 1314.
According to the constable’s office, the driver, identified as 38-year-old Marquis Joshua Woods of Conroe, admitted there was a small amount of illegal drugs inside the vehicle after the deputy made contact with him.
During the investigation, the deputy located a container holding multicolored pills of various shapes and sizes.
Authorities said that as the deputy attempted to take Woods into custody, he actively resisted arrest by pulling away and attempting to return to the vehicle. During the struggle, Woods allegedly grabbed the container of pills and threw it into a nearby ditch in an effort to destroy the evidence.
Deputies quickly recovered the intact container, and Woods was taken into custody after a brief struggle without further incident.
A field test of the recovered pills produced a positive result for fentanyl. Investigators said the pills weighed approximately 119 grams.
Woods was transported to the East Montgomery County Jail and charged with:
- Possession of a Controlled Substance, Penalty Group 1/1-B, 4 Grams or More but Less Than 200 Grams (Second-Degree Felony)
- Tampering with Physical Evidence with Intent to Impair (Third-Degree Felony)
- Resisting Arrest, Search or Transportation (Class A Misdemeanor)
“Traffic stops are never ‘routine,'” Montgomery County Precinct 4 Constable Rowdy Hayden said. “I’m thankful our deputy went home safely, and that’s 119 grams of fentanyl that won’t make it into our community.”
The investigation remains ongoing.
