South Texas Workplace Robbery: Co-worker Overpowered Trying to Detain Suspect

On Monday, May 20th, 2024, at approximately 6:30 am, Javier Caballero Jr., aged 46, arrived at his workplace located at 36557 FM 1421 in San Benito, Texas. Once inside the office, Caballero demanded money from a fellow co-worker. He then proceeded to take a small bag belonging to the victim, containing personal items such as a wallet, IDs, cash, and other belongings. Attempting to leave through the back door, Caballero was confronted by the victim, who jumped on his back, attempting to stop him. Despite the victim’s efforts, Caballero managed to overpower him and fled the scene with the stolen property.

Two days later, on May 22nd, 2024, Javier Caballero was apprehended and questioned by Sheriff’s Investigators regarding the robbery. During the interview, Caballero confessed to stealing the victim’s money and personal items. He cited being under the influence of drugs, specifically crack cocaine, as the motive for his actions.

Subsequently, Caballero was arrested and charged with T.P.C. 29.02 Robbery, classified as a 2nd Degree Felony. He is currently held at Carrizales Rucker Detention Center awaiting arraignment.
