San Benito Convenience Store Robbery Suspect Apprehended, Charged with Aggravated Robbery

On January 1st, 2024, at approximately 3:54 am, San Benito Police Officers responded to an aggravated robbery at the Stripes convenience store on S. Oscar Williams and North Frontage Road. The suspect, described as a male wearing a black baseball hat, black t-shirt, black shorts, and a black mask, displayed a firearm, demanding money from the cash register. The suspect fled on foot behind the store with stolen property, including US currency.

It was later discovered that the same male suspect, wearing identical clothing, had visited the store the previous day. On January 2nd, accompanied by a female, the suspect returned to the store, prompting another call to the police. Patrol officers, in collaboration with Cameron County Constable Precinct 3 Deputies investigating a separate incident nearby, detained the suspect, identified as 27-year-old San Benito resident Reynaldo Lugo IV.

Following an investigation and interviews with the suspect, San Benito Police Department detectives arrested and charged Mr. Lugo with Aggravated Robbery, a 1st Degree Felony, with a $150,000 bond. After his arraignment, Mr. Lugo was transported to the county jail in Olmito. He remains innocent until proven guilty.
