Scene of the crash

On January 3, 2023, a significant collision involving three vehicles occurred at the intersection of Highway 80 and Faudree, prompting responses from Odessa Police Officers and Odessa Fire Rescue.

The investigation unveiled that a 23-year-old Caleb Kirby, operating a Buick Enclave, was traveling west on Highway 80. Simultaneously, 55-year-old Carmen Rey in a Chevrolet Equinox was stationary, facing south on Faudree, awaiting an eastward turn onto Highway 80.

19-year-old Ashlynn Pippen, driving a Honda Civic east on Highway 80, attempted to turn north onto Faudree, failing to yield the right of way.

This resulted in the Buick Enclave colliding with the Honda Civic, subsequently crashing into the Chevrolet Equinox, causing the Buick Enclave to roll over into a ditch. All three drivers were transported to a local hospital, with the Caleb Kirby and Carmen Rey sustaining non-life-threatening injuries.

During the investigation of this three-vehicle collision, a separate incident occurred when a white Dodge Ram, traveling south on Faudree, attempted an eastward turn onto Highway 80. The Dodge Ram collided with a marked OPD police unit with its flashing lights on. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries in this incident.

The driver of the Dodge Ram, 48-year-old Yosvani Sanchez Alvarez, was cited for Fail to Display Driver’s License and Improper Turn.
