High-Speed Gulf Freeway Chase Leads to Arrest of Intoxicated Driver

On the evening of Sunday, December 31, 2023, Deputy K. Peters from Constable Phil Sandlin’s Office witnessed two vehicles engaging in a race along the Gulf Freeway near Fuqua St. Initiating a response, Deputy Peters attempted to pull over the speeding vehicles. While one complied, the other accelerated, prompting a pursuit.

Deputy Peters chased the vehicle as it reached speeds exceeding 130 MPH. The reckless driver, identified as 21-year-old Regan Elise Slusher, continued southbound on the Gulf Freeway, exhibiting erratic lane changes and narrowly avoiding a collision with another vehicle. The pursuit concluded near Bay Area Blvd, where Deputy Peters conducted a felony stop.

Upon detainment, Slusher displayed multiple signs of intoxication. Deputy Peters administered Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, determining that Slusher was unfit to operate a vehicle safely. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office was contacted and accepted charges for Evading Arrest/Detention with Vehicle and Driving While Intoxicated. However, charges related to racing on the highway were declined.

Following the arrest, Slusher was transported to the Harris County Joint Processing Center, where her bonds were set at a total of $2,600.
