Cameron Ray (Orleans Parish Prison)

HOUSTON, Texas -Two suspects charged in the 2025 fatal shooting of a 16-year-old boy outside a north Houston convenience store are now in custody, according to the Houston Police Department.

Authorities said 20-year-old Cameron Ray is charged with murder in the 496th State District Court, while Carnell Anderson, who was 17 at the time charges were filed, is charged with murder in Harris County Juvenile District Court. At first, Ray had been identified as the killer, but the investigation continued. Carnell Anderson was later identified as a second suspect.

The charges stem from the fatal shooting of 16-year-old Davion Elzy on May 11, 2025.

According to investigators, Houston police officers were flagged down shortly after 3:35 p.m. regarding a shooting in the parking lot of a convenience store in the 13360 block of Northborough Drive.

Responding officers found Elzy suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Houston Fire Department paramedics transported him to HCA Houston Healthcare Northwest, where he was pronounced dead.

During the investigation, homicide detectives identified Ray as a suspect and, after consulting with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, filed a murder charge against him.

Investigators later identified Anderson as a second suspect and also charged him with murder. Because Anderson was a juvenile when the charges were filed, a judge in the 313th District Court signed an order authorizing the Houston Police Department to publicly release his name and photograph while he was being sought.

Authorities arrested Anderson on Oct. 9, 2025.

Ray was arrested on July 17, 2026, in New Orleans by members of the U.S. Marshals Service and the Louisiana State Police Troop NOLA. He is currently awaiting extradition to Harris County to face the murder charge.
