Man Charged After Shooting at Cypresswood Kroger Leaves One Person Critically Injured

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – A 20-year-old man has been charged after an afternoon shooting inside a Kroger grocery store on Cypresswood Drive left one person critically injured.
According to the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office, deputies responded at approximately 2:50 p.m. on July 15 to reports of an active shooter at the Kroger located at 20355 Cypresswood Drive.
Deputies arrived in less than two minutes and took the suspect into custody as he was exiting the store.
The suspect was identified as 20-year-old Kaden Ausbrooks.
Precinct 4 detectives conducted the follow-up investigation and charged Ausbrooks with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon causing serious bodily injury, a first-degree felony.
Authorities said Ausbrooks is receiving medical treatment at a local hospital and remains under guard by Precinct 4 deputies. He will be booked into the Harris County Jail upon his release.
The victim remains hospitalized and is listed in stable but critical condition.
Officials said no other injuries were reported.
“We are grateful that no additional individuals were injured during this incident,” Constable Mark Herman said. “The rapid response of our deputies, along with the assistance of our partner law enforcement agencies, allowed officers to quickly secure the scene, provide access to emergency medical care for those injured, and conduct the investigation necessary to file charges against the alleged shooter.”
The investigation remains ongoing.
