Reckless Driving Incident Leads to Arrest of Brownsville Man for Multiple Offenses
In the early morning hours of Sunday, January 7, 2024, a Cameron County Sheriff Deputy narrowly avoided a collision with a recklessly driven vehicle while on routine patrol in Cameron Park, an unincorporated community in Brownsville, Texas. The incident occurred around 5:00 am, prompting Sheriff Deputies to quickly respond.
The vehicle in question, a Gray Nissan Rogue, was spotted by law enforcement operating at high speeds without headlights and taillights, in violation of traffic regulations. The driver, later identified as 31-year-old Homero Garcia, also ignored stop signs, prompting Sheriff Deputies to initiate a traffic stop.
Upon making contact with Mr. Garcia, the Sheriff Deputy who had the close call positively identified the vehicle. Subsequently, Sheriff Deputies arrested Mr. Garcia for the offense of Reckless Driving. A subsequent search of the individual revealed a small baggie containing a green leafy substance identified as Marijuana.
Mr. Homero Garcia now faces charges for Reckless Driving (TRC 545.401), classified as a Hybrid Misdemeanor, and Possession of Marijuana (HSC 481.121), a Class B Misdemeanor. Following his arrest, Sheriff Deputies transported him to the Carrizales Rucker Detention Center, where he awaits arraignment.
