Middle School Students’ Quick-Thinking Actions Thwart Potential School Shooting in Brownsville; Suspect Arrested
On February 1, 2024, at approximately 5:23 pm, Brownsville Police Officers responded to a potential threat at Garcia Middle School. Three students, who were near 802 and Grande Blvd, reported an alarming encounter with an individual in a maroon SUV. The suspect, later identified as Cristian Jesus Lord, allegedly threatened to carry out a school shooting the following day.
The quick-thinking students took immediate action, capturing pictures of the suspect’s vehicle and providing accurate descriptions to law enforcement officers. Thanks to their bravery and collaboration, officers were able to promptly locate and apprehend Lord, who reportedly admitted to making the threatening statement.
In recognition of their efforts, the Brownsville Police Department expressed immense pride in the students for their quick thinking and cooperation, highlighting the importance of a shared responsibility for community safety.
19-year-old Cristian Jesus Lord was arrested on February 1, 2024, on three counts of Terroristic Threat (Class B Misdemeanor). Following his arrest, Lord was arraigned on February 2, 2024, and a $6,000 bond was issued. Authorities continue to stress the significance of taking any threat seriously and commend the vigilance demonstrated by the students in safeguarding their school community.
