On Sunday, December 31, 2023, Cameron County Sheriff Deputies responded to a report of an unauthorized use of a vehicle at a residence on the 25000 block of FM 1846. Upon arrival, deputies made contact with a 24-year-old victim who reported that his vehicle, left with a mechanic for a tune-up the previous day, had been involved in a motor vehicle accident.

According to the victim, a DPS Trooper informed him around 2:00 am that the operator of the vehicle was identified as Angel DeJesus Gomez Berrones, the mechanic entrusted with the vehicle. Gomez Berrones was subsequently arrested for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI), and the vehicle was towed.

On January 5, 2024, Cameron County Sheriff Investigators contacted Mr. Gomez Berrones at the Carrizales Rucker Detention Center, where he was incarcerated. After advising him of his Miranda warnings, investigators obtained a confession from Gomez Berrones, who admitted to operating the vehicle without the owner’s consent. He confessed to going to a friend’s house to drink and was subsequently arrested for the motor vehicle accident.

Mr. Angel DeJesus Gomez Berrones now faces charges of Unauthorized Use of Vehicle (TPC 3107), a State Jail Felony, filed by Sheriff Investigators.
