Houston Police Investigate Unexplained Death of 59-Year-Old Man After ER Visit for Alleged Assault

The Houston Police Department is awaiting autopsy results following the death of a 59-year-old man at 14476 Hillcroft Avenue (HCA Houston ER 24/7 – Fort Bend Parkway) around 1:10 a.m. on Saturday, January 6, 2024.

The man’s identity and cause of death are pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

On Friday, January 5, at approximately 8:35 p.m., HPD patrol officers responded to a hospital check call at HCA Houston ER. They were informed that the man had arrived at the emergency room seeking treatment for shortness of breath. The man claimed to have been assaulted earlier that evening at 14523 Zenith Street in Central Southwest Houston.

Medical personnel administered treatment to the man, and on the following morning (Saturday, Jan. 6), he became unresponsive while still at the facility. Doctors pronounced the man deceased shortly thereafter.

The investigation is ongoing, awaiting the determination of the man’s manner and cause of death through the autopsy process.
