Man Fatally Shot in South Congress Avenue Apartment Parking Lot

On Thursday, September 21, 2023, tragedy struck the SoCo Park Apartment Homes at 7201 South Congress Avenue when a shooting incident claimed the life of a man. At approximately 5:32 p.m., officers from the Austin Police Department (APD) responded to a distress call regarding a shooting at the location.

The victim, identified as Juan Davila, was found in the apartment complex’s parking lot with gunshot wounds upon the officers’ arrival. Despite immediate assistance, Mr. Davila succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident prompted a swift response from Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Specialists, who were dispatched to thoroughly investigate the matter and interview witnesses. Preliminary findings from the ongoing investigation suggest that the tragic event stemmed from a confrontation between Mr. Davila and another individual. This altercation is believed to have arisen from a road rage incident.

Reports indicate that at some point during the confrontation, Mr. Davila produced a handgun. In the ensuing confrontation, he was shot and fatally wounded by the other party involved. The identity of the individual who shot Mr. Davila has been established, but as of now, no charges have been filed. The investigation into the incident remains active and continues to unfold.
