Man Dies After Fight at Houston Truck Service Business; Grand Jury to Review Possible Self-Defense

HOUSTON, Texas – A man died after a physical altercation at a truck service business in north Harris County, and investigators are examining whether the other man involved acted in self-defense.

Oscar Chavez died Oct. 3, 2026, after a fight at American Truck Service, located at 15133 Willis Street in the Aldine Meadows area of Houston.

According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the business after a man called 911 to report that another man was unconscious following a physical confrontation.

The caller told dispatchers that two men had been fighting and that one of them fell to the ground and lost consciousness.

Deputies and emergency medical personnel arrived and attempted lifesaving measures. Chavez was transported to a hospital, where he died shortly after arriving.

Harris County homicide detectives responded around 5:30 p.m. and interviewed employees, witnesses and the other man involved in the fight.

According to witness statements, Chavez had repeatedly approached the other man aggressively and attempted to fight him despite being warned several times to stop.

Witnesses told investigators that Chavez continued getting up and attacking the man, who responded by striking him.

During the final exchange, Chavez fell to the floor and did not regain consciousness.

Investigators recovered a digital video recorder containing security footage of the incident. However, detectives were unable to review the recording at the time of the initial investigation.

An autopsy determined that Chavez died from blunt force head trauma. The medical examiner classified his death as a homicide.

A homicide classification means the death resulted from another person’s actions. It does not, by itself, establish that a crime was committed.

Investigators believe the two men involved may have been cousins. One was reportedly a customer at the truck service business, while the other worked there part time.

The Sheriff’s Office said the case will be presented to a Harris County grand jury to determine whether criminal charges are warranted or whether the other man’s actions were legally justified as self-defense.

Authorities have not identified the other man involved or announced any criminal charges.
