Murder Charges Filed Against Suspect in Connection with September Shooting
58-year-old James Young has been charged with murder in connection to a shooting that occurred in early September, resulting in the death of 42-year-old Jesus Antonio Lopez Jr. The incident took place at an apartment complex located in the 1800 block of 14th Street, prompting a response from the Lubbock Police.
On September 9, at approximately 4:32 pm, Lubbock Police officers arrived at the scene and discovered Mr. Lopez Jr. suffering from a gunshot wound. He was immediately transported to the University Medical Center by ambulance, where he received treatment for his serious injuries. Mr. Lopez Jr. passed away on September 18, around 4:45 pm.
The initial investigation into the shooting was led by the Lubbock Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit. However, the case was subsequently transferred to the Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit. A murder warrant for James Young was issued on September 21, and he was apprehended without incident at the Lubbock County Detention Center, where he was already being held on unrelated charges. Young is currently being held on a $500,000 bond as the legal proceedings move forward.
