Fatal Single-Vehicle Crash Claims Life of 67-Year-Old Man in Austin

On Sunday, August 20, 2023, at around 5:33 p.m., officers from the Austin Police Department (APD) were dispatched to the scene of a single-vehicle crash in the 6900 block of North Lamar Boulevard. The driver involved in the incident, identified as 67-year-old Frederick Terrell Waits, was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.

Mr. Waits succumbed to his injuries on August 26 while undergoing medical care at the hospital.

This incident is being investigated as Austin’s 61st fatal crash of 2023, resulting in 64 fatalities for the year. On the date of this crash in 2022, 65 fatal crashes resulted in 66 deaths.
