Woman Charged With DWI, Hit-and-Run After Pedestrian Seriously Injured in Harris County

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — A woman was arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated and failure to stop and render aid after a pedestrian was critically injured Sunday night in northwest Harris County, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash occurred at approximately 9:44 p.m. on June 28 in the 12900 block of Cypress North Houston Road.

Investigators said Charissa Vigil was walking eastbound in the center turn lane when she was struck by a red 2015 Nissan Juke.

According to the preliminary investigation, the Nissan’s driver, identified as Kacie Mayberry, was traveling eastbound in the center turn lane and attempting to make a left turn into a private driveway when the collision occurred.

Authorities said Vigil failed to yield the right of way to the approaching vehicle and was struck by the front left side of the Nissan.

Vigil was airlifted to Memorial Hermann–Texas Medical Center in critical condition, where she remained hospitalized as of the latest update.

Investigators said Mayberry fled the scene without stopping to render aid.

Deputies later located Mayberry and determined she was showing signs of intoxication.

She was taken into custody and charged with Driving While Intoxicated and Failure to Stop and Render Aid.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office Vehicular Crimes Division continues to investigate the crash.
