Driver Flees Scene of Fatal Pedestrian Crash, Apprehended at Airport
Nyla Gamboa arrested at George Bush Intercontinental Airport

On Wednesday, December 4, 2024, deputies from Constable Mark Herman’s Office responded to a fatal auto-pedestrian crash at the intersection of Airtex Boulevard and Brundage Drive in north Houston. A vehicle struck an adult male cyclist and fled the scene, leaving the victim critically injured.

Upon arrival, deputies found the male lying on the roadway in serious condition. They quickly began administering first aid, including CPR, which was continued by paramedics after they arrived. Despite their efforts, the male succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Constable deputies were able to locate the suspect vehicle approximately a mile away. Through further investigation, they identified 22-year-old Nyla Gamboa as the driver involved in the crash. Later that day, with the assistance of the Houston Police Department, Gamboa was apprehended at the Intercontinental Airport while attempting to board a flight out of state. Gamboa faces charges for Failure to Stop and Render Aid Involving Death.
