HOUSTON, Texas – A 29-year-old man has been charged with murder after deputies found a woman fatally shot inside a home Saturday morning in northeast Harris County.

According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, patrol deputies responded to the 11100 block of Maritime Drive on July 18 after receiving a report of a shooting.

The initial 911 caller told dispatchers that the homeowner had received a phone call from his stepson, who said he had shot the victim.

When deputies arrived, they found 41-year-old Tonya Swink suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Responding deputies also found the suspected shooter still at the residence. He was taken into custody and identified as 29-year-old Cody Prince. The two were in a dating relationship.

Harris County Sheriff’s Office homicide detectives interviewed Prince, who investigators said admitted to shooting Swink.

According to detectives, Prince told investigators the two had been arguing and that Swink had threatened to end their relationship before he shot her.

Prince was charged with murder and booked into the Harris County Jail.
