Armando Alonso-Cortez and Carlos Daniel Espinoza-Arguello

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) has arrested two criminal illegal immigrant fugitives in separate incidents in Hidalgo and El Paso counties during Operation Lone Star (OLS).

On February 6, 2025, a DPS Trooper conducted a traffic stop on IH-2 in Sullivan City and arrested Armando Alonso-Cortez, 40, a criminal illegal immigrant from Mexico. Alonso-Cortez was wanted by the Alton Police Department for sexual assault of a child and was considered a flight risk. He was transferred to the custody of the Alton Police Department.

On February 11, 2025, DPS Special Agents and Troopers in Socorro arrested Carlos Daniel Espinoza-Arguello, 26, a criminal illegal immigrant from Venezuela, following a traffic stop. Espinoza-Arguello had a removal order from U.S. Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) and was a person of interest in a DPS Criminal Investigations Division (CID) case for sexual assault of a child. After ERO processing, he was interviewed by DPS Special Agents and subsequently arrested and booked into the El Paso County Jail.

Espinoza-Arguello’s arrest led DPS Special Agents and ERO Agents to a nearby stash house, where two additional illegal immigrants from Venezuela were taken into custody by ERO.
