Beaumont Police Confronts Knife-Wielding Man Who Set Vehicle Ablaze on IH-10

BEAUMONT, Texas – A routine traffic call quickly escalated into a dangerous situation Thursday night in Beaumont after officers encountered an armed individual who set a vehicle on fire.
On March 19, 2026, at approximately 9:23 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 3900 block of Interstate 10 for a reported traffic problem involving a stalled vehicle in a travel lane.
When officers arrived, they encountered a person inside the vehicle armed with a knife and making threats of violence. Officers also observed the individual was severely bleeding.
Despite repeated commands, the individual refused to comply and began setting the vehicle on fire.
Officers were able to safely take the person into custody and extinguish the flames before the situation worsened.
The individual was transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries and for a mental health evaluation.
Police said the incident highlights how quickly routine calls can turn into high-risk situations.
The Beaumont Police Department commended the responding officers for their professionalism, quick decision-making, and focus on public safety.
