77-Year-Old Found Stabbed Over 30 Times in Stoney Point; Two Suspects Identified

The Bastrop County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the murder of 77-year-old Simon Castillo, whose body was discovered at approximately 7:30 AM on December 17, 2024. Castillo was found by a relative after he failed to appear for his usual morning routine at his home in the Stoney Point area.
Investigators confirmed Castillo was alive on December 16, 2024, and had been stabbed over 30 times. His vehicle was taken by the suspect or suspects but has since been recovered by law enforcement.
Thanks to social media and local media coverage, the Sheriff’s Office received valuable tips that led to the identification of two men seen in a Facebook post. As a result, the public assistance request for identification has been canceled.
No arrests have been made yet. The investigation is ongoing as authorities continue to gather evidence and pursue leads.
