Houston Police Investigating Death of 4-Month-Old Infant at Apartment Complex in the Westside

HOUSTON, Texas — Houston police are investigating the death of a 4-month-old infant found unresponsive early Friday at an apartment complex on the city’s west side.
Officers responded around 3:45 a.m. April 17, 2026, to a meet-the-firefighter call at the Verano Apartments in the 2800 block of South Dairy Ashford Road.
According to Houston police, officers arrived and found an unresponsive male infant. Houston Fire Department paramedics reported they encountered the child’s mother walking through the apartment complex carrying the baby, who was bleeding from the nose and mouth.
The infant was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities said the infant’s identity and cause of death are pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. Investigators are awaiting autopsy results.
