Texas City Man Arrested in Investigation Into Synthetic Drug Distribution to Prisons

TEXAS CITY, Texas — A Texas City man was arrested following an investigation into the alleged distribution of synthetic narcotics to correctional facilities across Texas, authorities announced.
On June 2, deputies with the Galveston County Precinct 1 Constable’s Office assisted the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Fugitive Task Force in the arrest of Deidrick Capers at his residence in Texas City.
The arrest followed an investigation conducted by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Office of Inspector General and the United States Postal Inspection Service. Investigators obtained an arrest warrant from Dallas County charging Capers with Manufacture or Delivery of a Controlled Substance, Penalty Group 2-A, 1-4 grams. Bond on that charge was set at $50,000.
According to investigators, Capers allegedly mailed synthetic narcotics, commonly known as K2, into correctional facilities throughout Texas. Authorities said K2 has been linked to overdoses, medical emergencies and deaths in correctional facilities nationwide.
Following Capers’ arrest, investigators executed a search warrant at his residence. During the search, deputies recovered more than 80 grams of synthetic narcotics and discovered what authorities described as a small laboratory used to prepare and package the drug for distribution.
Based on evidence recovered during the search, the Galveston County Precinct 1 Constable’s Office filed an additional charge of Manufacture or Delivery of a Controlled Substance, Penalty Group 2-A, 4-400 grams. Bond for that charge was set at $150,000.
Capers was booked into the Galveston County Jail.
Authorities said additional charges from other jurisdictions are expected as the investigation continues.
The investigation remains ongoing.
