Teen Arrested for Murder After Fatal Shooting of Brother in Tomball

On Monday, November 25, 2024, at approximately 3:30 a.m., Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a shooting call at a residence on the 19,900 block of Stone Creek Court in Tomball. Upon arrival, deputies found a 16-year-old male with a gunshot wound to the chest. Despite efforts to provide medical assistance, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Five other males, ranging in age from 16 to 19, were detained, including the deceased’s 17-year-old brother, Rhyder Tettleton, who lived at the home with the victim. Their parents were not present at the time of the incident.

Harris County Sheriff’s Office Homicide investigators determined the teens had been drinking and handling firearms prior to the shooting. Tettleton told investigators he had aimed what he believed to be an unloaded pistol at his brother and intentionally pulled the trigger, accidentally shooting him. Following the incident, Tettleton allegedly attempted to hide the weapon and encouraged the others to mislead police by claiming someone else was responsible for the shooting.

Rhyder Tettleton was arrested and charged with Murder. He was placed in the Harris County Jail, with his bond set at $15,000. The investigation is ongoing.
