South Texas Man Arrested After Traffic Stop Uncovers Drugs and Weapons

In San Benito, Texas, on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, Cameron County Sheriff Deputies conducted a routine traffic stop at the intersection of Iowa Gardens Rd. and Business 77. The stop was initiated due to a traffic violation, leading deputies to make contact with the driver, identified as 30-year-old Luis Alfredo Garza.

During the course of the interaction, Mr. Garza voluntarily handed over a personal use amount of Marijuana to the deputies. Subsequently, he was taken into custody. A search incident to arrest revealed Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) cartridges in Garza’s pockets. A further search of the vehicle yielded additional THC cartridges, Alprazolam pills, and weapons.

Sheriff Investigators joined the case and obtained consent from Garza to search his residence. Inside, investigators discovered THC cartridges and containers of THC wax, with Garza admitting ownership.

As a result, Sheriff Deputies arrested Luis Alfredo Garza, transporting him to the Carrizales Rucker Detention Center where he awaits arraignment. Mr. Garza faces charges of Manufacture/Delivery of Controlled Substance PG-2, a 1st Degree Felony, and Possession of Controlled Substance PG-3, a Class A Misdemeanor. The investigation remains ongoing.
