Mother Arrested for Capital Murder in Death of 6-Week-Old Baby at Dell Children’s Medical Center
On Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at approximately 3:10 p.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to Dell Children’s Medical Center at 4900 Mueller Boulevard for a report of a deceased person.
Parents of a 6-week-old baby, identified as Marcello Hernandez-Mendoza, had brought him to the hospital after he stopped breathing. Despite life-saving efforts by hospital staff, Marcello was pronounced deceased.
Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Specialists investigated the case and discovered multiple trauma injuries on Marcello’s body. Child Protective Services (CPS) was notified, and Marcello’s parents were interviewed as part of the investigation.
On Wednesday, December 18, 2024, an arrest warrant was issued for Marcello’s mother, 21-year-old Jacqueline Mendoza-Ramirez, on a charge of Capital Murder. She was taken into custody the same day.
The investigation is ongoing.
