CEDAR PARK, Texas — A Williamson County jury has convicted a man of murder in the fentanyl-related death of an 18-year-old Cedar Park resident and sentenced him to 40 years in prison.

On June 10, 2026, jurors found Caleb Comer guilty of Murder in connection with the death of Matthew Wright, who died from fentanyl poisoning in 2024. Two days later, on June 12, Comer was sentenced to 40 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

The conviction followed an investigation by the Cedar Park Police Department’s Organized Crime Unit that began after Wright was found deceased inside his home in May 2024.

According to investigators, evidence gathered during the investigation showed that Comer sold fentanyl to Wright just hours before his death.

An autopsy later determined that Wright died from fatal levels of fentanyl in his system.

Detectives obtained a murder warrant for Comer, who was arrested in July 2024.

The case was prosecuted through a joint effort between the Cedar Park Police Department and the Williamson County District Attorney’s Office.

“This case sends a clear message to those who distribute illegal drugs, especially those whose actions result in the death of another person, that you will be held accountable,” Cedar Park Police Chief Mike Harmon said in a statement. “While no sentence can undo this tragic loss, we remain committed to aggressively investigating these crimes and protecting our community.”

The police department also recognized the Wright family for their support and perseverance throughout the investigation and court proceedings.
