K-9 Helps Capture Juvenile Driver After Chase Through Southeast Harris County

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — Two juveniles were taken into custody after a vehicle pursuit through southeast Harris County ended with a crash and a K-9-assisted search, according to the Harris County Precinct 8 Constable’s Office.
The incident began at approximately 5:53 p.m. on June 11, 2026, when K-9 Deputy A. Rabago initiated a traffic stop on a gray Dodge Charger near the 11100 block of the Gulf Freeway for a traffic violation.
According to authorities, the driver refused to stop and fled from deputies, entering the Walmart parking lot from Rowlett Road before continuing through nearby city streets.
Investigators said the Charger repeatedly circled the area near Almeda Genoa Road and Clearwood Drive in an apparent attempt to evade pursuing deputies.
During the pursuit, the suspect vehicle struck another vehicle.
The chase continued into a business parking lot near the 9500 block of Almeda Genoa Road, where the Charger drove across a grassy field. Authorities said the driver then made a U-turn and nearly collided head-on with Deputy Rabago’s patrol vehicle.
The vehicle eventually attempted to leave the area but struck a ditch, disabling it.
Both occupants fled on foot after the crash.
Deputy Rabago and his K-9 partner, Max, quickly located and stopped the driver, who was safely detained when additional deputies arrived. The driver was identified as a 16-year-old juvenile.
A coordinated search involving deputies from the Harris County Precinct 2 and Precinct 8 Constables’ Offices followed. The operation included the use of Precinct 2’s drone unit and Precinct 8 K-9 Deputy J. Humphrey and his partner, K-9 Samus.
Deputies soon located the passenger at a nearby convenience store and identified him as a 15-year-old juvenile.
After reviewing the case, the Harris County District Attorney’s Office accepted a charge of Evading Arrest in a Motor Vehicle against the 16-year-old driver and a charge of Evading Arrest on Foot against the 15-year-old passenger.
No serious injuries were reported during the incident.
