Man Arrested at New Year’s Party for Aggravated Assault After Hitting Another Guest With Beer Bottle
In the early hours of Monday, January 1, 2024, Cameron County Sheriff Deputies were called to a residence in Los Fresnos, Texas, responding to reports of an aggravated assault. Upon arrival, deputies encountered a 38-year-old male victim with a forehead laceration. The victim and witnesses at the party identified Irineo Gomez as the alleged assailant. Gomez was promptly taken into custody by Sheriff Deputies.
While the victim received medical treatment from Emergency Medical Services, he recounted that Gomez had been making inappropriate jokes in the presence of guests and children. When the victim asked Gomez to stop, Gomez reportedly responded by striking him in the forehead with a beer bottle. Statements from witnesses supported the victim’s version of events.
Irineo Gomez was arrested by Sheriff Deputies and subsequently transported to the Carrizales Rucker Detention Center awaiting arraignment. He faces charges of Aggravated Assault under Texas Penal Code 22.02, a 2nd Degree Felony.
