Intoxicated Altercation Leads to Arrest in Los Fresnos Family Violence Incident

On Thursday, February 1, 2024, at approximately 12:30 am, Cameron County Sheriff Deputies responded to a residence in Los Fresnos following reports of an assault. Upon arrival, deputies made contact with two victims, an 18-year-old male, and a 51-year-old female.

The 18-year-old male victim informed authorities that his father, 49-year-old Carmelo Medina De Jesus, arrived at the residence under the influence of alcohol and initiated an argument with his mother, the 51-year-old victim. The son reported hearing concerning sounds from his parent’s bedroom and intervened to prevent his father from assaulting his mother. He further stated that Mr. Medina De Jesus pushed him and issued verbal threats.

Subsequently, Sheriff Deputies spoke with the 51-year-old female victim, who recounted that Mr. Medina De Jesus, in an intoxicated state, had become verbally abusive towards her. She alleged that he physically assaulted her multiple times, causing pain and discomfort. The situation escalated when the son entered the room, resulting in a disturbance involving Mr. Medina De Jesus and the 18-year-old.

Carmelo Medina De Jesus was taken into custody by Sheriff Deputies and transported to the Carrizales Rucker Detention Center, where he awaits arraignment. He is facing charges of Assault Family Violence TPC 22.01, classified as a Class A Misdemeanor, and Assault Family Violence (offensive contact) TPC 22.01, a Class C Misdemeanor.
