Former Wichita Falls Detective Charged With Perjury, Tampering After Investigation Into Court Affidavits

WICHITA FALLS, Texas — The Wichita Falls Police Department has obtained an arrest warrant for a former detective following an internal review and criminal investigation into sworn affidavits submitted to a magistrate earlier this year.
According to the department, the former detective filed multiple sworn affidavits with a Wichita Falls Justice of the Peace in March 2026.
During a supervisory review, department personnel identified concerns regarding the accuracy of information contained in the affidavits. Officials said the department immediately moved to dismiss the warrants associated with the inaccurate information and launched two separate investigations.
The Office of Professional Conduct conducted an administrative review while the department’s Criminal Investigations Section opened a criminal investigation.
Investigators ultimately determined there was probable cause to believe the former detective knowingly submitted affidavits containing false information to a magistrate.
As a result, authorities obtained an arrest warrant charging the former detective with two counts of Tampering with a Governmental Record, a felony, and two counts of Perjury, a misdemeanor.
“We are shocked by the alleged actions of a former member of this department. The integrity of the criminal justice process depends on the accuracy and truthfulness of information presented to the courts,” Interim Police Chief Mitch Bates said in a statement.
Bates said the department acted quickly once concerns were identified, dismissing the affected warrants and initiating investigations.
“When concerns were identified by members of our Department, we acted immediately to dismiss the warrants obtained, initiated an internal investigation led by our talented team, and followed the facts,” Bates said. “This is what our community expects and deserves. Our responsibility is to address misconduct transparently and hold individuals accountable for their actions.”
The detective resigned from the Wichita Falls Police Department after the investigations began.
Authorities have not released the former detective’s name or additional details regarding the affidavits, citing the ongoing criminal case.
The investigation remains active.
