Fatal Westside Houston Shooting to Be Reviewed by Grand Jury

HOUSTON, Texas – A fatal shooting in west Houston that left one man dead Thursday night will be referred to a Harris County grand jury for review, according to the Houston Police Department.
Officers responded to a shooting call at approximately 10:50 p.m. on May 28 in the 2300 block of South Kirkwood Road, where they found an unresponsive man in a parking lot.
According to HPD Homicide Division Sgt. K. Meek and Detective K. Aloysius, the man was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics with the Houston Fire Department.
The identity of the deceased has not been released pending notification of family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
Investigators said they located two individuals at the scene who reported they had been walking to a nearby gas station when the deceased man allegedly approached them, threatened them, and assaulted one of them.
The pair told officers they went into a nearby business following the altercation.
According to their statements, when they later returned outside and walked past a shopping center, the same man allegedly approached them again and targeted the individual who had previously been assaulted.
Police said that individual then produced a firearm and shot the man, striking him.
A witness called 911, and both the shooter and witness remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
After consulting with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, authorities determined the case would be referred to a Harris County grand jury for review.
