Baytown Officers Rescue Trapped Driver From Wrecked Vehicle as Truck Burns Nearby

BAYTOWN, Texas – Baytown police officers rescued an unconscious driver from a severely damaged vehicle moments after arriving at a fiery two-vehicle crash Wednesday night.

According to the Baytown Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 9:30 p.m. on May 27 to the 3100 block of West Baker Road for a major crash involving two vehicles.

While officers were en route, dispatchers advised that one of the vehicles was on fire and that a woman was trapped inside the second vehicle.

When officers arrived, they found a Ram pickup engulfed in flames. The fire had already spread to a nearby fence, tree, and power lines.

Just a short distance from the burning truck, officers discovered the second vehicle with an unconscious female driver trapped inside.

Despite the immediate danger posed by the growing fire, one officer broke a window and climbed completely into the heavily damaged vehicle to reach the driver. With assistance from other responding officers, the woman was safely removed from the wreckage and carried to a secure area where emergency medical personnel began treatment.

Authorities said all occupants involved in the crash were transported to a local hospital. Their injuries were reported as non-life-threatening.

The Baytown Police Department praised the quick actions of officers and other first responders who worked together to prevent further injuries.

“Last night’s incident is a reminder that our officers regularly place themselves in dangerous situations to protect and save the lives of others,” the department said in a statement. “We are thankful for the quick actions of all first responders who worked together during this incident.”

Police also reminded motorists to slow down, stay alert, and drive responsibly, noting that lives can change in an instant on the roadway.
